Your Rooted Voice Instructors

Ellee Achten (she/her), Founder

Ellee has been teaching singers for more than 20 years, starting in 2003 at a music store in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She has helped students ages 6 to 86 discover their own unique voice. With 8 years of formal training, her performance experience includes 13 years on stage and in recording studios in styles ranging from pop, jazz, classical, folk, and even punk. With tools borrowed from somatic experiencing she focuses on the embodiment side of making sound, using whatever style of music each student prefers to sing.

Robin Dearmon (she/her)

Robin has more than 20 years teaching experience in a variety of disciplines, both in the classroom and online. After 6 years of individual lessons at The Rooted Voice, she completed the teaching program and began teaching individual and group lessons. She focuses on deep relaxation and feeling the “note in your throat.”

Kyle Conover (he/him)

Kyle is a musician and songwriter who studied at The Rooted Voice for more than 8 years before completing the teaching program. He draws from his background as a massage therapist and his interest in body work to explore embodied singing with his students.

Eden Tidd (she/her)

Eden is a musician and vocalist who has nearly a decade of experience teaching students across a range of artistic disciplines. She studied at The Rooted Voice for 6 years before completing the teaching program. Her years of experience as a dancer and dance instructor helps her guide each student in understanding balance in the body in order to find their voice.

Will Paschal (he/him)

Will is an instructor-in-training currently offering lessons. After more than 3 years of individual training, he continues to study at The Rooted Voice while also enrolled in the teaching program. His deep interest in philosophy has brought him across many disciplines of study in academia and in life. His desire to teach comes from a desire to connect with others in an impactful way, and also to explore embodiment in all its forms.

Joscelyn Baez (she/her)

Joscelyn is a pianist and singer who is a current student in the teaching program. Previously, she was a professional dancer and music intern in Los Angeles. While on the west coast, she also taught people with disabilities in music and dance. Joscelyn’s more than 20 years of experience in various styles of dance and music has created a passion in her to help others find their authentic voice and style — and healing in the process.
